BRAZIL - ECONOMIC GROWTH & STABILITY 2008 was one of the best years for the Brazilian economy with booming export and commodity markets and the currency at a 9-year high against the US dollar. During Q4 2008 and Q1 2009, Brazil was affected by the global recession, but the 1.9% growth in Q2 2009 proved that the economy is once again on an upward trend. The Economic Outlook published by the Organisation for Economic Co- operation and Development (OECD) in November 2009 predicts that Brazil’s GDP growth in 2010 will be 4.8%. This figure is 2.5 times higher than the 1.9% combined growth forecast for the 30 OECD members. The OECD expects Brazil to grow 4.5% in 2011. contd....
